Katie and I have been together five years now. And while we have nothing but fond memories for the early days of our relationship, many would say we moved a bit too fast. We began staying together every night after only about two weeks, moved in together after four months … and we both dropped the L word within just a few weeks of our first date.
Katie had planned to do it while we were out hiking with our pups, but her plan to confess her love for me at the water tower never materialized because she was nervous and afraid.
We also took a wrong turn and never made it to the water tower that day.
Today’s poem comes from an assignment to write about a major event in a person’s life. I chose that moment when you want to tell someone you love them. It’s scary and loads of people will likely tell you it’s too soon, but when you feel it, you feel it.
Who cares; just say it.

“Just Say It”
There’s something stressful about saying those words
Yet hearing them can be the best thing you’ve ever heard
Have there been enough dates?
Do I need to wait?
Does it even really even matter … when you know that it’s fate?
So much build-up, so much pride
So much certain uncertainty, an emotional ride
Then you finally do,
And she looks at you
And whispers that beautiful phrase, “I love you, too.”
