We’re not very patriotic at the Simpson household. On a personal level, I think patriotism is one of the most evident forms of idolatry in our society, but even among Christians it is extremely acceptable. We don’t fly flags in our house, I will not recite the Pledge of Allegiance, I will not recite the National Anthem. That being said, we did not celebrate Memorial Day, but I did rock out the kitchen. My goal was to make three meals and a dessert, each something I’ve never cooked (or cooked with) before. Our Memorial Day menu follows:
Breakfast:
Huevos Rancheros with home-made salsa
Lunch:
Gourmet Grilled Cheese, made with shredded blend, bacon, spicy brown mustard and a sliced Granny Smith apple on whole grain bread. Side of baked Doritos (classy!)
Goodie:
Lemon-spice cake with lemon icing, utilizing my new loaf pan and cooling rack my wife bought me :-)
Dinner:
Dr. Pepper-marinated BBQ pork ribs grilled with home-made Dr. Pepper-based BBQ sauce. Side of maple-glazed Brussels sprouts.
And here’s how they came out:
Way to go chef Simpson! : )
