I’ve signed off every one of my Oppdrag: Norge posts with “Alltid Videre,” the Norwegian translation of Ever Onward. I have used this phrase since I was a sophomore in high school when I took an interest in Che Guevara. I feel like a fascination with the Argentine Marxist is required conduct for any budding punker, but at the time I thought it made me unique. I had a portrait of him printed and slid into the cover of the three-ring binder I used for my Spanish class. Just under the portrait read, “Hasta la victoria siempre” – Ever onward toward victory. I’ve loved this forever and have adopted it as my own for almost 25 years now.
For the record, I’m not so much into Guevara these days. I have friends in Argentina, however, and I’m sometimes labeled a “Marxist” by M*GA loyalists who don’t know the meaning of the term, so maybe I’m becoming him? Nah, I’m too lazy for guerilla warfare. Or am I?
Regardless of my thoughts on economic and societal theories, I am indeed “ever onward” toward the Norwegian town of Kristiansund! The miles are creeping up, though maybe a little slower than they were. Make no mistake, however, I’m putting in LOTS of work. I’m still running five days a week and lifting four.
I just started Phase 2 in the Pump app’s “Next Level” program and I’m kinda loving what it’s doing for my body. I have about five weeks before I reassess and determine which program I’ll follow next. As for running, I just finished week four of eight on the 5K speed program I’ve been following. I’ve loved it despite having to (okay, choosing to) run outside under the heat dome. I read that from a climate/weather perspective, being outside was akin to being inside a boiling stock pot with the lid on and I believe it. Gods bless America.
It’s made me become someone I never thought I’d become: Running with my shirt off guy. Yes, I’m annoyed by it. I’ll have to admit, though, that I kinda wish I had the guts to do it earlier. It’s kind of like the first time you ride your motorcycle wearing a tank top. The main difference is running with your shirt off just feels good while riding your bike in a tank top is dangerous and stupid.
But you look rad as hell.
Unsure how rad I look running shirtless but I don’t care. I did get honked at / cat-called yesterday by a group of dudes, which was pretty funny. A compliment is a compliment is a compliment.
To break things up, I’ll share some pizzas Katie and I made last night and also informally announce that I’m going to be starting a new Instagram account dedicated solely to pizza. It’s called Slice Riot and I’ll probably make a whole post about it here once I get it up and running.
