My two or three readers aren’t going to care much about this, but it made my day.
>>Pretty yucky heartburn woke me up at about 1:30 this morning. I woke up, stirred around and went back to bed. The heartburn went away, but I had a yucky acid-reflux type feeling the rest of the day, rendering my appetite all but completely gone. I nibbled on a few things for lunch and drank a lot of fluid, but nothing seemed to make me feel any better, so needless to say, I didn’t get much work done today. I just wasn’t feeling it.
So what does one do when he’s not feeling like sketching a possible logo for an upcoming documentary? He makes a 40 song playlist on YouTube showcasing a sort of “history of” ska! I started with the beginnings, the Skatellites, Prince Buster, Bryon Lee and the Dragonaires, Toots and the Maytals…Then a taste of 2 Tone, with the Specials, the Selector, the English Beat and Madness…A little early 90s 3rd wave ska, Save Ferris, Mighty Mighty Bosstones, Mustard Plug, Hepcat, Skankin Pickle, then some late 90s Reel Big Fish, Big D and the Kid’s Table, Less Than Jake and Streetlight Manifesto…
Upon searching for some songs I wanted to include on my playlist, I found a piece of gold that I wasn’t aware existed. Apparently in 1994, the Mighty Mighty Bosstones covered Kiss’ “Detroit Rock City.” It’s not my #1 favorite cover of all time, but go ahead and put it on my “top” list, along with Goldfinger’s “99 Red Balloons,” Reel Big Fish’s “Take On Me,” and Less Than Jake’s “I Think I Love You”.
